Sperry and Dolores set up shop and installed a small hand
operated printing press, mounted on a block of wood. A number of years
later they moved their place of business to their residence at 208 Main
Street, where it remains today. In 1952 they built the first addition
to this building.
-
As the year went by, the Merritt's added newer printing
equipment – a far cry from the first humble press – and enlarged the
premises. They gradually installed more sophisticated equipment and
today, boast some of the most modern in the area. Major additions were
undertaken in the 1970’s and 1980’s. With these expansions and
improved equipment, their staff also grew in number. In early years,
the Merritt's were often forced to hire outside people, however this has
changed over the years and today boasts almost all local people on their
staff. Among this “home grown” staff, some have been employed with
the Merritt's for over 30 years.
